Overview
Dive into the future of money with stablecoins, deposit tokens, and bank rails—see how they all connect in person!
As stablecoins scale globally, deposit tokens emerge from commercial banks and DLT reshapes settlement infrastructure, the financial system is entering one of the most profound transitions since the creation of electronic banking. Yet for all the innovation, one question remains central: What will the future of money actually look like — and who will build it?
Join us for a thought-provoking Fireside Chat with Rhomaios Ram, former CEO of Fnality International and Honorary Research Fellow at Warwick Business School’s Gillmore Centre for Financial Technology. A leading voice in digital finance, Rhom is at the forefront of developing regulated, DLT-based wholesale settlement systems backed by central bank money. His influential 2025 paper, Bridging the Divide: The Hybrid Future of Stablecoins and Traditional Finance, argues that the next era of financial infrastructure will not be driven by a single model but by the convergence of many: public-chain stablecoins, bank-issued deposit tokens, and traditional payment rails.
In conversation with Gaya Chandrasekaran (Co-President, Alumni Tech & Media Club), Rhom will explore:
- How stablecoins, CBDCs and deposit tokens are reshaping monetary architecture
- Whether banks can compete with fintech issuers through tokenized deposits
- The role of interoperability and regulation in enabling large-scale adoption
- What DLT-based wholesale settlement means for liquidity, markets and policy
- Why the “hybrid future” may be the only realistic path forward
As trillions of dollars in assets move toward tokenized formats, financial institutions, regulators, technologists and investors face complex strategic choices. Are we ready for a world where money becomes programmable, borderless and instant? How should firms prepare now to avoid being left behind?
